Day 3 of Study Challenge

Add an extra half hour to your study time today

I reviewed a bit for my test on The Catcher in the Rye for english, and I feel a bit more confident for the test. I might write a review for the book later, but as of now I'll just say that I think that book is interesting.

Day 2 Study Challenge

Clean up and organize your study area.

I try to keep my room as clean as I can possibly get it every week, so this wasn't a terribly difficult task.

Day 1 of Study Challenge

The first challenge of the month is: Find something that inspires you to hit the books.
This goes hand in hand of why I'm doing this challenge anyways. It's all the study blogs I've found recently on tumblr and I want to show them to you :) They help me immensely when I get off task and then I go on to tumblr and oh there's someone working hard at the library for 6 hours, oh! there's someone making flashcards, oh! their notes are so color coordinated I want to do that too!!It's all of these motivations that make me want to try and do good on tests and in school.

30 Day Study Challenge

Heyyo!! So being a high school student has its trial and tribulations. It's not all fun and parties like the movies make it out to be (and if it is, well I'm not that kind of person to be turning it up on a Monday). I recently found this post on tumblr that I thought was interesting because it revolves around studying. It is a 30 day challenge where you have to post something every day for a month of something about studying.

Recently, I have gotten into the studyblr side of tumblr and am following probably more than 50 blogs all of people taking photos of their study sessions and it really is motivating. I would love to start this challenge on the first of November, but because I did not see it until now, I will have to play a bit of catch up. :) I hope one of you come along with me and do the challenge too, and help each other out if we end up slacking ;p

Vampire Academy Movie Review

Go watch the movie for yourself at amazon
Vampire Academy
Vampire Academy (2014) Poster

From imdb.com
Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, half human-half vampire, a guardian of the Moroi, peaceful, mortal vampires living discreetly within our world. Her calling is to protect the Moroi from bloodthirsty, immortal Vampires, the Strigoi.
First reaction to this movie is that it's just trying to replicate the Twilight series, right? That's what everyone thinks now in days when every a new young adult book to movie comes out. I wouldn't say it's anything like Twilight besides the fact that they have vampires and are in high school. Besides that, it's more of an actual high school scenario if there was a vampire high school. It depicts your standard high school cliques and love life issues along with political vampire authority power.

Sankarea Anime Review

Furuya's not interested in the living, he's got zombies on the brain! When Furuya's cat dies, he decides he's going to try and bring it back to life. In the process, he stumbles across a girl who is involved in an accident and turns into a real zombie! What's Furuya going to do now that the thing he loves the most is right in front of his eyes?
Sankarea is on the mature side of animes because it does show some nudity and the themes in the show are quite out there-and by that, I mean 10 year olds may not understand what the anime is conveying. The animation is nothing special, but it is nice to look at. It doesn't have any cool animation style or quirk that most animes seem to have now like K Project or Boku Wa Minna Kawaisou.

Hana to Akuma Full Manga Review

From mangahere.co
17-years-ago Vivi, the demon, decided to leave the demon realm and come to the human world. There he found an abandoned baby and on a whim decided to keep it. Since then he lived together with Hana...but having a 14 year-old girl around you, is it really as simple as you think it might be?
I'm going to link my manga test for Hana to Akuma so I won't have to repeat myself.

So as I continued reading the manga, the characters started to grow on me more, and I liked how the story progressed. It was very enjoyable to read even though it pained me sometimes to see the characters in pain:( I don't have anything else really to say about the manga, besides what was in the manga test, but that the ending was not what I expected and I think the author did it cleverly and with grace. (yes it did make me tear up) tbh I think my favorite part of the manga was the ending...yeah, not sure what that really says about it.
Go read Hana to Akuma, Vol. 01 for yourself

Amnesia Anime Review

from crunchyroll.com
When the heroine regains consciousness in an unfamiliar place, she has suddenly lost all memories of everything that happened before August 1. What is this place, and what was she doing there? Who is she, and what sort of life had she lived?
I saw this anime about a month ago, and only was it now when I'm searching it again that I see the animation is pretty interesting. From some reason when I think back on this anime, I see it in black and white, even though the show is obviously not and has very vibrant colors. Haha maybe that's just the amnesia working on me outside of watching the anime.

Manga Test:Taiyou No Ie

From mangahere.co
Motomiya Mao is a High School student who has "lost a home" after her father gets married again. She starts to live with Nakamura Hiro, 23, who knows Mao since childhood. Since that time Mao spent all her free time with Hiro´s family and after his parents deaths, he´s waiting for the day when his brothers and Mao would once more live together.
I started reading this manga because I thought it was on the same vein as your normal shoujo manga. It definitely is at parts, but I think it's more than that. It has more in depth emotions and complications that go beyond romance. There is a lot of family issues that occur on both ends of the love interests and it's an interesting thing to add to a manga that is already hilarious in its own way. I like the balance it finds between the two and it creates an interesting manga to read.

How I'm Learning Japanese

So at the beginning of the summer I had the idea and motivation to start to learn Japanese. It's mostly because I consume a lot of manga and anime that I really wanted to know more about the language, and thought it would be cool to self-teach myself over the summer mostly and a little over the later months.

First thing off. I am not taking Japanese classes online or real life. I have not been to Japan, though I would love to. My goal is to reach the JLPT N4 by December of this year and take the test. Whether I take it or not depends on how busy I will be when school starts back up again. But that is my goal that I'm trying extremely hard to gain.

So when I did the Color Run back in May, I had this very long playlist so I wouldn't feel bad if my playlist started over while running so slow. Please be aware that when I listen to music when I run it's for the beat, and this music I'm going to share with you you might disagree with.

Diabolik Lovers Anime Review

Diabolik Lovers

From myanimelist.com
Komori Yui is a positive-thinking girl who nevertheless is troubled by seeing spirits and experiencing poltergeist phenomena. In her second year in high school, she transfers to a new school—a night school for entertainers and celebrities—due to her father's work. There are rumours that vampires exist among the student body, and Yui ends up living with the six sadistic Sakamaki vampire brothers.
I watched this anime when I was in my reverse harem mood, when I also watched Kamigami no Asobi and Amnesia. It sounds like a more extreme version of the Twilight series, and I guess in a way you can say that, but then again you can say that with any young adult vampire media. This anime was made from a video game series and at times you can definitely see the moments when you can choose what you can do next if you were playing the video game. It wasn't too bad, but it was there.

Don't Quote Me: The End

I am going to stop posting don't quote me posts every week now, because I feel like it did not contain enough good content that I want to display on this blog. I felt like it was too easy and was a waste of time for the blog and myself. I hope to replace it with something else in the near future, but the meme Don't Quote Me will not continue on this blog. I'm sorry, and I hope you understand.

Inu x Boku SS Anime Review

From myanimelist.com
The Shirakiin house's daughter, Shirakiin Ririchiyo, who has a complex about being unable to live independently and unprotected, feels the need to move out and live on her own under the condition of residing in the mansion named "Ayakashi Kan." In this mansion, only those who have cleared a very strict examination could reside in it, and for each resident, they are accompanied with one agent of the Secret Service (S.S.). Although Riricho has rejected the company of the S.S., while residing in the mansion she finds out that the agent dedicated to protecting her is actually the Fox Spirit.
The one word that comes to mind when I think of this anime is fun. It's extremely fun with eccentric characters that can be a bit inappropriate at times, but I think this anime has a really overall fun vibe about it. It's animation is about average, I think. It's not something too special and not bad at all, there's just nothing that makes it stand out of the crowd.

Manga Test: Hibi Chouchou

From mangahere.co
From Day of the River: Upon entering high school, the very quiet but extremely cute Suiren becomes the immediate center of attention among the boys…but one particular boy does not look her way.The story of a quiet girl and a quiet boy. A short, refreshing love story.
I would not say that this story is that much of a refreshing love story, but it is really cute and adorable to read. I read the first couple of chapters of this ongoing anime that started quite recently in 2012. My favorite part about this manga is how the two main characters are drawn. They have the cutest look and a bit different from your average shoujo manga.

Mangas I Read That Have Updated

HANAGIMI TO KOISURU WATASHI - chapter 31

Summary from mangahere.co:
Nanase Sakashita is good at playing the role of Model Student but that doesnt stop her from taking an interest in Hana-kun, the schools delinquent. Hana-kun accidently drops a small box while sneaking around on the school grounds. When Nanase tries to return the box, Hana-kun tells her to keep it for its already to late to give it to the person he likes, who is this person??

This manga was updated Tuesday (July 15th), and it's currently in its not so happy part of the story where nearly no characters are glad to be in the situation and it's heartbreaking to read. I don't want to spoil anything, but this is a cute shoujo manga that I really enjoy. I'm not sure if it was just the scanlation I read or what, but I felt like the speech bubbles did not make sense to who was talking, and that the art was a bit lacking from the usual, though the last update it had was in February 0_0.

Bokura Wa Minna Kawaisou Anime Review

From crunchyroll.com
Based off of the original manga by Ruri Miyahara, The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior is comedic slice-of-life anime that revolves around the main character Kazunari Usa moving into the Kawai dormitory complex due to his parent’s job transfer. He finds out that he is not only living in the same building as a perverted roommate but also his love-at-first-sight Ritsu Kawai.
I originally found out about this anime through a tumblr post, and thought that this anime was the prettiest thing EVER. Seriously, have you seen the colors and lights and shadows of this show?! Well now you have. It's what drew me into the show, because I hadn't been watching that much anime before this one (ahem, as of this year I mean). That being said, I have to say that most of my time with this show has been spent looking at the colors and animation, instead of the story and character.

New Manga I'm Interested In Spotlight

Kimi No Sei-Kizuato

From mangahere.co
Takaya and Yurina are back in this sequel to dive into their history. Back in kindergarten, Takaya had made fun of Yurina, and now that she's forgiven him in the present, what other things from the past will come to haunt her? Will they be able to resolve all their problems and go back to their peaceful lives...?!

I was pleasantly pleased with the first series, so I can't wait for this second series to be all out. I like the addition of new characters, and I like how their relationship is growing and shifting because of it. I hope to write a review of the first series soon. :D

Sword Art Online Anime Review

from crunchyroll.com
In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called: Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die in real life. Their struggle for survival starts now...
I found out about SOA through a tumblr picture that I thought was cool, but this was months ago, and I can't find it :(. My initial thoughts of this series was that oooh this seems pretty cool, and it has a bit of romance tied together with some really cool fighting sequences. It is really good...for the first have of the first season. I have to say around episode 7 or so, when things get into more shit than they were before is when I found out that this series is dragging itself out too much for it to be good. I wish, like most people who have seen Sword Art Online, that it would have ended around episode 7 or so too. There's no need for more unnecessary drama. It really ruined the experience of the show for me. I'm glad I marathoned it when all the episodes had already come out. I can't imagine the shock people watching had while it was releasing. The torture they must of have been through is unbelievable. The writer of the anime needs to calm down and finish the story without added more drama.

K Project (K) Anime Review

From myanimelist.net
Set in a world where history has taken a slightly different course from the one we're familiar with, K follows the story of a young boy whose life is caught in a psychic war between seven kings.
Ashinaka High School is known for its unique setting: the entire campus is built on an island. Yashiro Isana, aka Shiro, is having lunch with a cat on one of the school rooftops. After his lunch break, Shiro goes on an errand for his classmate Kukuri to prepare for their upcoming school festival, only to be chased by some intimidating-looking men.

I originally found out about this anime through a tumblr gif. That is probably where I find the animes that look the amazing most often. So it's safe to say the thing that drew me into this anime was the art style. I am in love with the colors and the world of this anime. It looks amazing and it makes me happy at how peaceful it is and you can clearly see the effort it takes to make something look this good. There are a lot of visual special effects that I have not seen in animes I've been watching, that really add to the experience when there are fight scenes.

I'm afraid of talking too much about this anime, because it's quite easy to spoil it. It is a thirteen episode shounen anime with kings in future japan that have supernatural powers. For instance, they can fight with fire. It's a bit confusing to understand if you're not paying close attention, but I don't think you'll get too lost if you keep following the story. I ended up watching the entire series in a day, and I was thoroughly entertained.

Manga Test: KEISHICHOU TOKUHANKA 007

I thought of a new Monday feature I could have on the blog. It's called the Monday Manga Test, where I read the first few chapters of a manga and give you my initial thoughts on it, and if I would continue reading it. This week I read Keishichou Tokuhanka 007. It's catergorized as a shoujo romance, supernatural, and mystery manga.

From mangahere.com

The “Special crime investigation department 007″ includes the most capable and extraordinary investigators and Fuyuki, who also becomes one of its members, is very capable, to. And she is paired with Kuze, a cool and very bishonen detective. Their combination proves to be the most dangerous one the police headquarters had ever seen!

C'mon! Look at how long his neck is!!!
I read the first chapter of this manga, and my initial thought was that the art style was not for me. It reminded me of an old 90s anime style, even though the manga started in 2010 (translated anyways). I don't like how the characters are drawn, and for me, that's one of the most important parts of reading manga. I can't read a story if every time I look at the character it doesn't look 'right'. That's a bit vague, but I like the new way of manga and this old style with strange heads and really long necks don't do it for me.

3) How has your taste in books changed?

Kamigami No Asobi Anime Review

From Crunchyroll.com

This is a beginning of the curious school life with the gods and human-beings. One day, Yui is led to the world of gods to teach them about “humans”, but the school life is start with confusion. As Yui teaches about “humans” and “love” to the gods, they feel and develop a “love” or…?

This is a twelve episode long romance, shoujo, reverse harem anime with mythical gods. The story is a very interesting and unique one to bring Norse, Greek, Egyptian, and Japanese gods together and teach them a lesson-of course through the magic of friendship. The anime came out this year, and has recently finished. The anime is based off a game on the playstation portable that came out near the end of last year.

The studio that made the show is Brain's Base, who has also done Durarara!!,Brother's Conflict, and Amnesia, and My Little Monster. I tend to like their animes and I'm glad they're releasing more in the coming years. They've been around for more than a decade so they know the ropes, in my opinion. Their animes are usually really good or really eh though. :( They're still fun to watch just for the fun of it.

Volunteering at the Library

In my state, it's a law that we have to do a certain amount of volunteering hours before we graduate high school. So in my nerdy self, I volunteered at the library and shelved the books in the children's library. To be honest the job was quite easy, it was just that I was alone by myself and got a bit bored now and then, but then I would hear the cute sounds of children reading and sounding out words. It's lovely seeing how things started and where I am today, from that little kid at the table reading a picture book now.

The idea of a library is quite cool, because if knowledge is power, the most powerful place is probably the internet, or the libraries. The internet, though with lots of things, the knowledge is fuzzy and has no real beginning to end with the lies and made up words people wrote ten years ago, and what they will write ten years from now. Truth is difficult to find on the internet.

Review: My Little Monster(Anime/Manga)

Summary:
Shizuku Mizutani has learned to deal with life's disappointments by repressing her emotions and trusting no one but herself. She has only one focus and that is academic achievement. Haru Yoshida throws himself at life with every ounce of emotional power he has which would not necessarily be a problem except he deals with deep seated rage issues. He has seriously hurt several students over the years and consequently everyone is afraid of him. Shizuku sees no point in engaging the world around her and Haru doesn't know how to engage the world around him. All that begins to change when the two first meet and find themselves almost immediately attracted to each other. Their unlikely pairing leads both of them to begin to break out of their lonely, little worlds to see what life really has to offer.

from animenewsnetwork

Like I've been saying in my recent posts, I've been wanting to read/watch more romantic type things and this is definitely one of them. I watched the anime in about a half a day, and fell in love with it immediately. It was just really easy and fun to watch. So there are thirteen episodes in the series that aired in 2012, and I the animation is not anything crazy cool like Attack on Titan or Beyond the Boundary, but it's pretty and watchable.

Review: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

Summary:
In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

from goodreads

My first review of a book in the new year, and I'm disappointed to say that this novel was everything I thought it was going to be, though I hoped for much much more. Everything about it was quite mundane, and your normal young adult paranormal novel-the craze this days.

The main character, Clara, though we have the same name, I have no sympathy for her or any real connection towards her lifeless being that is just going along with everything. Her character isn't a strong female protagonist, which I know I can't always have, but she was just so ghostly and boring to me anyways. I wanted to believe and fall in love with Clara's love interest, Christian, at the beginning of the story but that did not happen either. To be honest, they way Christian was told, it was like the author was writing about someone who I know it real life, which is also...ghostly, in a sense. But, you do get your tall dark handsome, and charming love interest, which I guess is someone who we all fall for every now in then.

The plot line is quite bland, and I spent most of my time skimming through the words, and finding that I didn't miss anything. Hand writes in a way that isn't entertaining or different from your average fanfiction writer, to be harsh. The dialogue was dull and again had no real life and character behind them. How the characters talked and reacted to each other were all so been there done that, it made it tiring to read without wanting to bash my head into a wall.

As someone who's read her fair share of the paranormal young adult novels, this novel does nothing for me at all. There was an interesting world that sucked me in, or an evil villain that we all secretly loved and thought was bad ass. I'd say, if you wanted to read about angels, go read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor, or if you want your paranormal fix go read the indie series, the House of Slide books by Juliann Whicker. I was not trying to be mean in this review, but I honestly did not like this novel at all, and it's safe to say that I will not continue to read this series. So to one best friend to another, I'd give Unearthly a head shakes vigorously, thumb pointing down, mad face for the waste of my time, and disappointed eyes. (1 out of 5)
